Bangladesh has reason to be proud of its rich ancient heritage. At once this was a rich and developed region. Many travelers express their impressions glorifying these places. At present there are several sites in Bangladesh where you can still see some of those relics. There are the Paharpur, Gaud & Puthia in Rajshahi, Kantajee temple in Dinajpur, Mohasthan in Bogra, sat Gombuj (60 dom mosque) in Khulna and Moinamoti in Comilla are most prominent.

Paharpur in Noagaon district about 60 km away from Bogra Town where the remains of the most important and the largest known monastery, south of the Himalayas has been excavated. This 8th century A.D archaeological find covers an area of 27 acres of land. The entire establishment, occupying a quadrangular court, measuring more than 900ft and from 12ft – 15ft in height with elaborate gateway complex on the north. There are 45 cells on the north and 44 in each of other three sides with a total number of 177 rooms. The architecture of the pyramidal cruciform temple is profoundly influenced by those of south-east Asia, especially Myanmar and Java declared as a World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The excavated finding has also been preserved at the Varendra Research Museum of Rajshahi.

Mohasthangarh- The ruins of ancient Pundranagar are now buried deep in Mohasthan is located at a distance of 14 km from Bogra town. Mohasthangarh is the oldest archaeological site and earliest City Bangladesh on the western bank of river Korotoa. This 3rd century B.C archaeological site is still held to be of great sanctity by the Hindus. Every year middle of April and once in every 12 years (December) thousands of Hindu devotees join the bathing ceremony on the bank of Korotoa. Visit the Mohasthangarh site museum will open up for one a wide verity of antiquities, ranging from terracotta object to gold ornaments and coins recovered from the site.

 Gaud –is the border place with India. There are many ancient mosque most of them were build during the rule of the Muslim Sultanate of the Elias Shahi period. Many of those mosque bear rich example of architecture among them- Chota Sona mosque, Darasbari Mosque, Kushumba mosque and Rajbibi mosque are famous.

Puthia-is 23km east of Rajshahi city. There is a number of important Hindu structures in Bangladesh among them- Shiba temple and Guvinda temple is famous. There is also attractive king palace (Rajbari).

Kantaji Temple – is in the Dinajpur district near Shibgonj. It was built by Moharaja Pran Nath in 1752. Kantaji temple is considered to be the most spectacular Monument of Bangladesh. This temple fully made by terracotta.
